2024 reflections
Light at the end of the tunnel
Another year has passed. 2023 was a challenging vintage for the crypto industry. 2024 was a pivotal year that ended with light at the end of the tunnel. As always though the crypto industry keeps innovating and Dune keeps shipping. Here are my reflections on 2024 at Dune.
The multichain year
A year ago Dune supported just over 10 chains. Early this year we realized the multichain world is happening and we need to lean into it! Since then I’m proud to say that we integrated 75 new chains on Dune. We now support both Ethereum L2s as well as a lot of other non-EVM ecosystems on Dune. It takes a tremendous effort from our integration and infrastructure team but we get it done! Across the Dune experience, from the datasets to data discovery, querying, and browsing dashboards we are actively working on a better multichain user experience!
Wizards, Wizards, Wizards
This year we’ve doubled down on our long running commitment to empowering the industry’s best data analysts to both analyse and share their data to the wider crypto community. We’ve integrated AI into core workflows, introduced multichain decoding, launched a new code editor, dashboard minting and much more. My biggest surprise on stage at DuneCon was the roar of applause I got when introducing… pivot tables! You know you have some data nerds in the room when a new visualization gets an applause - the revolution will not be reported quarterly! We continue to be incredibly humble and honored to empower so many analysts on Dune.
Much more to come in early 2025, including better looking profiles, engagement stats and as always better creator tooling!
DuneCon: 900 people and NPS of 96!
In November we hosted our third and biggest and best DuneCon to date. It’s quite excruciating to set up an event of this size as you never know how many people show up. So we were delighted to see and welcome 900 attendees at DuneCon in Bangkok this year. It was an extraordinary effort from our team as we ran this event almost fully in-house. Beyond the physical production, our lean Go-To-Market and People team are the ones that planned and executed DuneCon. You’ll find our software engineers and finance team handing out badges and swag. I made the playlist to ensure the vibes were right. All over it’s a massive team effort. This year our NPS score came back at a whopping 96!
The data must flow… in real time!
At Dune our mission is to make crypto data accessible. That has meant serving vast amounts of onchain data for flexible querying with at least a few minutes of a delay from the chain head. While we proudly serve millions of industry observers and many thousands of analysts with our analytics data, we’ve also been painfully aware of how the latency in our data limits its usefulness. We’ve taken a big leap to enable more use cases and launched our first real-time data offering. Echo is Dune’s brand new developer platform, bringing multichain sub-second latency data APIs to developers building onchain apps. And this is only the beginning!
The future of onchain data
Throughout we’ve looked at and considered many companies but it’s never felt quite right to pursue an acquisition. Over the past year Mats and I have been keeping a close eye on what’s been moving at the bleeding edge of crypto data tools.
It was clear to us that what Dor and the team at smlXL have built is by far the most powerful and exciting take on the future of crypto data. Their ability to go deep inside the EVM, instrument variables, call contracts, and get any data you desire in real-time as the EVM executes makes for breathtaking capabilities.
We are absolutely thrilled that smlXL wanted to join Dune and keep working on our mission of making crypto data accessible together. With their breathtaking tech and Dune’s reach we’ll change the game for how developers build with onchain data.

Light at the end of the tunnel
As per usual working in the crypto industry is a rollercoaster ride and 2024 was no exception. For startups in general and crypto in particular I’m a big believer in the power of long term determination and grit. The last couple of years have been very challenging for the industry, but nevertheless Dune has kept evolving and shipping. Now we are getting rewarded with regulatory clarity on the horizon in the US. That will be a massive unlock for legitimate builders seeking to innovate on public blockchains. With this backdrop we at Dune are as excited as ever to serve onchain data in 2025, not only to analysts but in real time to developers as well.
Last but not least, we know you’ve all been longing for some juicy data on your own creations. Go to Dune Download and receive your exclusive 2024 recap on Dune!
